Not surprised, but the way they inform applicants is seriously rude. You just get an email saying a decision has been made, log into the portal, and see your application status has been changed to declined. Like, how impersonal and snobby is that?

For my application I had three strong letters of recommendation, a summer internship in industry during undergrad, departmental undergrad research, and was halfway through a gap year at an academic institution at the time of application. I didn't need to submit GRE scores.

Got an email from a prospective PI congratulating me for getting admitted. Still waiting on the official letter from the head of the department which they said I should expect soon.
