Canadian, $5500 funding, 3.43 GPA in my last 2 yrs of undergrad, lots of community and volunteer work, decent work history.

It hurts me

Interviewed by two professors. Expected rejection. Heading to UT Austin for PhD.

I mean the question begs to be asked whether these universities deserve the prestige they get when all they did was take in the most prodigal of the prodigies who would have anyway made it big. When in 150 years of their existence they could not come up with an explicable, transparent method of selection and have to hide behind confidentiality to avoid giving reasons while asking so much from the applicants. Is the process even intended for admissions or just to fund their research

2 papers, a decent GPA, multiple relevant industrial and academic internships and research experiences, both national and international awards and scholarships relevant work experience, good LORs, don't know what they expect.

Only 16% of graduate students are international, and they brag about diversity on their web site. I shouldn't have applied, such a waste of money.

It says the number of applications was exceptionally high. GPA 3.66, TOEFL 106, 2 under review papers, 24 months of work experience, and several teaching assistant experiences. Not unexpected. Status on the portal is still "Complete, under review".

Please, someone tell me his/her status on the Toronto website. Is it rejected or still under review?

Good GPA + GRE and some really good projects of my domain (AI). 1 paper publication + 1 conference proceedings. Summer internship at CERN. 2 very strong LORs and 1 perhaps average. 3 years research experience. 8.0 IELTS score. And in the rejection mail they say "Gaining more computer science-related research experience and/or work experience and improving grades, GRE and/or (if applicable) English language scores may help to strengthen your application." It's all about luck. A blind shot gamble.

What's your status on the Toronto website?

One year of work experience after completing undergraduate Biomedical Science degree at uOttawa. Overall, 2 years of research experience. Delivered both oral and poster presentations at national conferences. Good extracurriculars, but no volunteering in hospital.

GRE:326, no publication, subpar GPA.
