HCI - honestly, so shocked - not a typical applicant

Invited to interview for robotics/ML. 2 top tier conference papers, 1 workshop paper at a top tier conference, a thesis; in another field, 1 journal paper and another in submission to one of the top venues in that field. Multiple FAANG level internships, college and national awards for undergraduate research.

Informed by POI that I was "pretty much" admit after interview last week. Area: ML/AI. Major GPA: 3.94, lower cum GPA caused by extenuating circumstances, but it's been 4.0 for the past two years of undergrad. T5 CS school with Research Fellowship, research featured in places like ArsTechnica/SlashDot. Collaborated with a very well-known cyber security website to manage a data breach.

US top engineering school valedictorian ICML 2 first-authored, 1 nth-authored NIPS 1 first-authored 1.5 years at big tech ai research group. 2 very strong letters from big guys. seems to send out interview requests for applicants in AI/ML area. My friend also got the request through email.

Applied to HCP as PM in AI research org of FAANG company with 2.5 YOE. Undergrad from top 5 public school with double major in computer science and finance, 3 YOE as teaching assistant for CS classes, no research experience, GPA 3.82, GRE 168Q/167V/5.5 AWA. Strong rec letters from FAANG director in AI, well-known professor who I work with, and TA supervising professor. Solid SOP.

3.94 GPA in Mathematics Undergrad from top 10 uni. 170/160/6 for Q/V/A in GRE. Two research placements during undergraduate and no prior internships. No publications. Focussed on causal inference in my SOP and Instructor of DL at NVIDIA. Stoked.

To the iit-b guy who got into stanford, how much is your per year cost including tuition and living and how are you planning to pay for it? I am asking because I need some idea for myself too. thanks

Graduated summa cum laude from UCLA CS, 3 years of work experience in ML engineering at FAANG. Fuck Stanford, they've rejected me so many times now (once for undergrad, 2 times for MS now). Never applying here again.
