Official Rejection. Did not receive end-of-day callback, etc.

TTPB: Yale is the more prestigious Ivy League while Columbia is in a city (although you pay to live there). As someone rejected from both (presumably from Columbia since I didn't get an interview yet), I would have picked Yale for the prestige and better program quality (i.e. doesn't seem as much as a cash cow program as Colubmia)

Yale or Columbia??

Purdue BS, GPA 3.82, Work Experience 2 years in Bay Area, ICPC attendee.

Going to Columbia instead I suppose.

Please login to your Status Portal to view an update to your application status. On web-portal, it says: Thank you very much for applying to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Yale University. I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission. As you know, the very high number of extraordinary candidates far exceeds the number of places we have in each program, and we are not able to admit many excellent candidates.

expected

Have related research experience. No paper. Not really a good fit. Sad but expected.

TTPB: I heard the offer and waitlist have been sent out. I don't hear from the school either. I think it's a rejection...

TTPB: I heard that their department's funding situation is pretty bad so they only accept students that already had funding (like government funding for exchange students...) They should put it on their application page and save me some money.

Funding available March 15th. Submitted GRE scores even though they weren't required (159Q/158V/4.5W). Although they are low, I think my passion and experience (4 1/2 years) definitely helped my application. Clear purpose for why graduate school is necessary at this point in my career.
