Rejected post interview. Thought interview went really well, so very bummed.

Rejected after interview. Can't figure out why because I thought interview went well and it was a good fit. Admissions really is a big black box.

My POI had warned me about reduced admissions this year because they wanted to use their resources to help continuing students face a tough job market. Oh well - congrats to those accepted!

What is wrong with Upenn? Why don't they send any acceptances or rejections?

email from prof. I previously talked to "Formally Penn is not admitting new graduate students this year. However, ------ and I have a Simons Foundation grant that is able to support two incoming graduate students. We were very impressed with your file, so we hope you'll want to come to Penn and work with either or both of us." very strange year!

I had my midterms today. I should have known that the virtual event was a pure waste of time before spending 2 hours for it. What a waste! Penn could have done better! All they wanted was publicity. To future applicants, DO NOT ENTER THE VIRTUAL EVENT! IT IS A PUBLICITY STUNT

TTPB: They did say 13 new PhD admits. Wasn't clear if it was for Fall '20 or '21. Either way it wasn't helpful and an absolute waste of time. Basically info anyone could get from looking at the webpage you should be happy you didn't attend. They did say you should assume you are still in the running till April 15th or you get a rejection which is just BS.

Missed the event today, can anyone let me know what happened during the event? I saw someone posted 'New MEAM Ph.D. students: 13', is this real? They only admitted 13 new PhD students this year??
