TTPB: I would assume it's a rejection (I was one of the ones who got an interview) based on the email's wording. Looks like that's the pool who is offered admission. But 2 notes of consolation -- since I have been in your position for a few schools I really liked this cycle! (1) The acceptance rate at programs like this are very low so by definition many qualified people won't be accepted. This happens because (1a) MIT would rather risk a false negative than false positive and (1b) sometimes really idiosyncratic things come up, like who has funding for a particular project. But ofc none of this is necessarily a reflection of you as a candidate since you can't control MIT's risk tolerance or projects of faculty. (2) In general, I think this was a bad year to apply for PhD programs because so many people applied for PhD programs. So many people who would have been accepted last year will not be accepted this year simply based on numbers. And in that case, it's always worth it to shoot again next year. And your experience of applying this year will be helpful. Hopefully these comments are somewhat useful/consolatory. And ofc, best of luck with your other choices since there are many amazing programs out there :)

TTPB: Had an interview with POI last week, and received the waitlist notice from POI due to limited funding yesterday. Field: environmental fluid mechanics. Status may change if funding becomes available.

Heard from a friend at MIT AeroAstro that the admits will be out by Friday

Ttpb: I mailed the ME grad office and they told that they will be making the decisions in the next few weeks and we will receive decisions soon by mail.

Did anyone hear from the interdepartmental program in transportation Ph.D.?

I'M SO EXCITED! This was my top choice!!! Stats: 1 first-author pub, 3.74 gpa, 2 years of biomedical research, LOTS of extracurriculars and teaching experience.

TTPB: I have not heard back from them too. I do not want to ruin your day, but this is basically a rejection. They are going to offer admissions to those who are interviewing. Congrats to all of them.

Am I the only one who didn't receive interview invite?! Is this a bad sign? Can someone please answer this question :(

TTPB: I'm the other poster with the interview invite, and I got a survey monkey link where we're asked to fill in 5 names of faculty we may want to interview with, though they also noted that we might get matched with other faculty that could potentially be good research fits.

Also got rejected. Feeling lost and questioninvg everything around me. I thought I had a chance. This decision is absolutely devastating. Reading that email felt like my future was being crushed. It doesn't help that I am currently quarantining. I don't know what to do with my life anymore. My heart goes out to all those who got the same email today. Sad day ..
