Notified prior to "official" decision by professor who I had been in contact with multiple times. A little confused, based on how receptive the department (and multiple faculty) had been to my research interests/fit in the department. Professor said they had pretty high numbers this year and had to choose students who fit better into their program.

Interview invite from 2 POI's. Really excited as Brandeis just started accepting students for the doctoral program who didn't do their MAs at Brandeis.

UCLA poster from earlier -- we had a long phone call about our overlapping research interests, current trends in psychological/medical anthropology, and what the department and life in LA are like. Very informal and more of a conversation than an interview; I didn't feel like I was being "evaluated" so much as sharing my interests in more depth and asking questions of my own.

To the UCLA interview poster: congrats! Which track to you take? And is the interview invitation directly coming from your poi or someone else in the department? Extremely nervous right now - it seems that UCLA didn’t do interviews in the past years...
