Rejection after what seemed like a great interview day, lots of 'strong candidate'- and 'reassurance'-type comments. Built my hopes up a bit, but I guess that's life! Notification through email to check portal: Unfortunately, after careful consideration, you were not among the candidates selected for admission. I trust that you have been or will be admitted for graduate study to another university of your choice. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you continued success in your studies Too bad I didn't get in anywhere else @ their last statements!

Email to check portal, very excited!

Well, better than a rejection, I guess?

First received an informal acceptance via email, then received a notification to check the portal a week or two later. I'd like to think my academic/professional background supplemented my lackluster GRE scores. No interview.

graduated from a low-/mid-tier university (non-traditional), 3.5 years of FT neuro research at a top tier institution during UG (same lab), no pubs, no GRE

Did not take gre, 1 published paper, reached out to pi beforehand
