Just to be clear my post below is referring to Iowa Writers Workshop fiction and poetry programs. Creative non-fiction and other programs seem to be on slightly different timelines. And obviously someone could be accepted off the waitlist after notifications go out. Just don't expect a whole new round of fiction acceptances after rejections come out, as if you look carefully at past years that is obviously not how they do it.

To the person suggesting that there are two rounds of notifications for Iowa: I think you may be mixing up Iowa State and University of Iowa Writers Workshop, two separate schools and programs. IWW only does 1 round of notifications, which is clear if you look at the past 2 years. Everyone who hasn't heard anything can probably expect word very soon, but most likely if you haven't been called already it won't be an acceptance. Sorry to be a downer but people should have accurate info.

Yo, so 1. I'm pretty sure there are still a bunch of fiction decision letters—with news ranging from bad to okay to good, as far as I'm aware—that they have not yet mailed and might not mail for several days. Probably not worth it to keep checking the mail box (though let's be real I still am doing so obsessively lol). 2. Just curious, @ the people who have received their letters, is your name somewhat skewed to one side of the alphabet? 3. Are they coming through USPS or a private carrier?

Yeah, funding has apparently been cut pretty bad. On top of that, Mat Johnson will be leaving the faculty. Bummer. Luckily, I've already narrowed down my choices to two other offers. 4a/1r/1w/3p

I checked the portal after seeing some people had posted acceptances via mail, and I had a very nice acceptance notice! I live in NYV, so I’m still waiting to hear back from 2 schools here before I make the move to Chicago. 2a/1r/2p

*fart noise* IWW offers non-degree summer workshops which sound pretty cool and not super expensive. PS-I was rejected from all programs last year and basically didn't write for 9 months. If anyone is going thru that now, remember what my mentor said: "Keep writing. That's where all the power lies."

Was kind of hoping for at least a waitlist especially since two of my recs graduated from here. Though I'm pretty sure I know what part of my portfolio killed my chances (wrote my second piece in a month because I forgot that Iowa required two). Oh well. I still have choices, so it's not the end of the world. Still a huge bummer though, I really wanted to go here. 2A/2R/0W/3P
