Email to check portal. Portal contained letter. I mean, I figured this was a long shot. I have to say, I usually don't care about form letters and whatnot, but this one was particularly bad. Not well written. Not from the program. Just blegh. I regret to inform you, Brown, that you need to git gud at form letter writing.

Also got a "thanks for the strong application" note. What's the difference? Maybe they have different people sending the letters out? Either way, it's a rejection :P 0a/3r/0w/4p

To the poster below. I'm still out at Oregon. I asked last Friday if there were others and someone responded yes. I assume we made it past an initial tier of rejections (consider all that posted form letter rejection last Friday), but I have not idea. Hoping to hear back this week. Someone posted a phone call acceptance 2 or 3 weeks ago. So who knows...

To the poster below: without knowing what schools you are talking about, or how much debt, it sounds from your post like there's one program you actually want and another that involves less debt. T. Kealey suggests in his 'MFA Handbook' that you can (politely) inform the school offering less that you've been offered a GAship at this other school, and see if it's possible they can offer anything in the way of financial support. Sometimes there's wiggle room and it's ok to ask.

To my fellow writers: It's decision time for me and I am having the most difficult time in deciding between two programs. Omitting the programs, one is offering me a GAship, and the other is offering me money. While I may be happy in both places, I feel the one without funding will make me happier and give me better opportunities for development. I do need input as either I go into more debt and gain a "better" experience, or go debt-free and still gain an experience, but it be not as fulfilling. Sincerely, Stressed

I'm honestly quite happy! I feel like I'm (perhaps) moving in the right direction with my novel. 1a/2w/3r/4p (Also, has ANYONE heard from Brown?)

Just to be clear my post below is referring to Iowa Writers Workshop fiction and poetry programs. Creative non-fiction and other programs seem to be on slightly different timelines. And obviously someone could be accepted off the waitlist after notifications go out. Just don't expect a whole new round of fiction acceptances after rejections come out, as if you look carefully at past years that is obviously not how they do it.

To the person suggesting that there are two rounds of notifications for Iowa: I think you may be mixing up Iowa State and University of Iowa Writers Workshop, two separate schools and programs. IWW only does 1 round of notifications, which is clear if you look at the past 2 years. Everyone who hasn't heard anything can probably expect word very soon, but most likely if you haven't been called already it won't be an acceptance. Sorry to be a downer but people should have accurate info.
