Got an email last night around 10:30 pm my time (9:30 their time.)

Accepted via Email and straight out of undergrad, so so excited!!! (1a/1r/0w/10p)

:(

Short form rejection via email. Pretty heartbroken about this one, especially since I was waitlisted for their program in previous cycle. Alas. Congrats to those who got in! 1a/3r/18p

Personal email from Danielle Evans. "We keep a very short waitlist of writers we would be excited to work with; this year the fiction program received a record 638 applications for only four spots, so your status as a finalist speaks to how extraordinary your application was."

Dear [Student], Your application for admission to the Graduate School at Cornell University has been given careful consideration by the Graduate Field of Literatures in English. I'm very sorry to say that we are unable to offer you admission to our M.F.A. graduate program for Fall 2025. This was a very difficult decision, since we received hundreds of applications for very few places in the program. We had to turn down a number of very talented people with very impressive records, many of whom no doubt will go on to distinguished careers. This email will serve as your only notification of your application results. We appreciate your interest in Cornell, and wish you success in your graduate studies. Thank you for sharing your work with us. Yours truly, Lindsay Thomas

It’s okay to be sad and disappointed, but know that you’ll be okay. The perfect program for you will say yes. In the meantime, remember that you are still a writer.
