Not surprised or anything. Two MS degrees in ENGs from top 30 universities. No direct background in neuroscience, expect for working on imaging biomarker for Alzheimer's. 2 first author journal papers published, 1 second-author journal in review, 5 conference posters. One book chapter, one pending patent. 20 month of full-time lab research. Teaching, mentoring, and service - all checked. Their loss, not mine.

Generic rejection email. Not surprised given the competitive nature of this program, but still sad. I have my Master's degree and four years of full-time research experience at an R1 university and major research hospital, three publications (1 first-author), and a letter of recommendation from an internationally recognized PI in my field. Best of luck to all invited for interviews!
