Nominated for Berkeley Fellowship. Prof called to let me know I would receive official admission in a few weeks.

Sad...

VERY kind rejection notice. "It is painful to have to turn down so many talented young scholars, but at least the strength and enthusiasm of the applicant pool gives us hope for the future of our field. I am sorry we do not have a place for you at Berkeley, and I hope you will be able to make other arrangements to achieve your academic goals."

Email to check website. 4.0 MA in soc, good LORs, strong research experience with two well known profs, pub under review. At least they didn't send rejections on Valentine's Day like last year.

Top choice/best fit. Mediocre GREs. Two years research experience with highly respected professor in field and a coauthored paper with him (out for review).
