Finally accepted! No word on funding yet. A little surprised about this, though, since my PGRE was kind of low (was probably saved by letters of rec)! Plasma Astrophysics. No research in either field. Current research is in biophysics and thermodynamics. Previously worked on experimental thin polymer film research.

I hadn't received a letter or an email, so I called IWW. They told me letters had been sent out on March 12th, and I should email to have my letter scanned to me. I emailed, and they sent a scanned copy of my rejection letter.

Email from grad director if I am still interested and information about their offer.

No official communication but they updated the status on the profile on their portal to "Not Accepted"

Sent an eager and excited email to [email protected] asking of there was any update on my app status. In reply, got a scanned copy of a generic rejection letter...

Received a phone call and an email stating my acceptance on the same day, and an email with my funding information a few days later.

I emailed to ask my status, and they emailed me back a scanned copy of my rejection letter.

Well I am thoroughly confused-- got into and wait listed at other top programs with much smaller cohorts and pretty large applicant pools (UMich was about 1,000). I am trying to focus on that but I am still feeling pretty down. Not trying to be ungrateful, just trying to understand why my application was desirable to other schools with such small cohorts, but not Iowa with a larger cohort. Anyway, I'll be over it soon!
