To the person enquiring about the UPenn rejection, I didn't submit my GRE score as it was waived. I am from a Tier-2 college with a GPA of 9.6/10 (3.94/4).

to the fellow (who posted on 20 Jan, has 3 International papers and 2 national) who didn't get accepted from UPenn, sorry to hear that I'm sure with your stellar profile you shall get accepted somewhere. Would you mind sharing your stats please? GRE scores, undergraduate GPA and undergraduate college (tier 1,2 etc) are important in admissions.

3 International Paper, 2 National Paper. Placed first in numerous tech competitions. 2 years of work experience in core CS at a FAANG.

Applied before the early deadline

Does UPenn even have a computer science ms? I looked at the website they are all Master of engineering which are basically professional degrees (no research).

Waitlisted. Did not take the GRE. Heard back in 12PM PST. Due to the unprecedented increase in submitted applications, we updated your application status to waitlisted. This means that we need more time to review candidates, and assess enrollment numbers for the Fall 2021 semester before issuing a decision. I guess I had a good profile but rejected

Seems like not many people got into UPenn. Looking at their FAQ, it seems they accept deferrals so I'm wondering how many new spots they even had this year given most people must have deferred last year...

I think GPA matters a lot for UPenn.

3.5 GPA, 325 GRE, 1 year full-time research experience at IISc. Research internships at IIT-Bombay and IISc. 1 year research assistantship in my No-Name Uni with 2 publications in AAAI 2021 and 2xGSoC. Multiple national awards and strong research fit with faculty. Not sure why the reject but I guess I'm not good enough for UPenn...
