Checked portal "We regret we were unable to admit you"

Received an email that there was a change to my status in the application portal, and the rejection letter was waiting there. At least I don't have to move to Ohio.

Very nice phone call from Meghann Meeusen. Funding (TA) is still up in the air--she said there's a "short waitlist" but assured me that it would be available.

womp womp. personally, i appreciate IU putting the rejection in the body of an email vs. having to check a portal. saves time and gets it over with faster.

The process of selecting students for the incoming class is one that our admissions committee takes very seriously. We must make fine distinctions among highly qualified applicants, many of whom could be successful in our program. We wanted you to know, in fact, that your file made the second round of our process -- meaning that you were among the top 12% of applicants we received this year. Cold comfort, maybe, but we were truly impressed with your work and thought you'd appreciate a small note of encouragement during what is, we know, a stressful period.
