Informed by email. Have a quantitative MS w/ 4.0 GPA.

I got a rejection from one of the PI that I discussed in my SOP. Is that normal? Does it mean that they recognize me in some way but can't offer a seat because of the highly selected pool? Should I reach out for opportunities?

Interviewed with a POI in December and got an email from POI 2 days later saying they are going to consider other candidates. Not surprised about the rejection since the POI was the only one in BCS I wanted to work with.

I asked about the application status to the program coordinator, and they answered below. - The BCS Admissions Committee is in the final stages of reviewing applications and invitations for interview have been sent to 95% of selected applicants. I'm just waiting to hear from the committee that the reviewing period is over and then I'll be sending notifications to non-selected applicants. I'm sorry this is such a lengthy process. I'll be in touch asap.
