The email read: "... I am pleased to inform you that you have been placed on a very short wait-list for admission to the Political Science graduate program at Penn State University." Another email followed asking me of my external funding.

Received acceptance today! Direct admission to lab. Not offered any special fellowships, but hopefully that could happen soon.

Really generous, detailed email from DGS, with a request for a Skype call when I had time (which we have since done and went well). The funding package, while developing, also seems very competitive. I am delighted, as this is one of my top choices and a choice preferred for me by many of my professors/advisors. Also received an invite for Welcome Weekend in March. Over the moon.

To the post below who said he/she is defeated: Don't give up your dreams. Just keep working on it. Last year I applied to 10 schools and got rejected by all of them. This year I applied again and got several interviews. It's OK sometimes to take a detour but never too late to achieve your goals as long as you keep going forward. Cheer up and get yourself better prepared. I believe you will succeed eventually. Good luck!
