Final round of interviews was 1/30, 10 of us were invited

I just happened to check the portal and saw my rejection from today. No email notifying me.

6 of us are invited to the interview weekend (Interview on 2/1). 3 interviews in one day. One interview is with the department head, and the 2 others are with 4 faculties (2 interviewers for each interview). The day ended with a dinner with the faculties and current students. I had a great experience overall. They asked me standard questions like "Why this program", and asked me about my research experiences in detail.

Rejected without an interview. It is a new program and I heard they are only taking very few students.

Rejected without an interview. Applied to the economics track.

Applied to the economics cognate. I contacted a few professors in the department prior to submitting my application to discuss my interest in the program and got useful feedback. I met virtually with the director of the program and had a very productive discussion. However, at the end of the discussion, he asked me if I was an international student. I said yes, and felt that it marked the end of my journey to U-Mich, and it indeed was. First rejection of the cycle.

My background is in economics. Top East Coast and West Coast programs from undergrad and masters. I contacted some faculties in the department, who provided valuable feedback on my statement of purpose. However, I was rejected without an interview.

Interviewed on Jan 16. I think the interview went well. They asked my standard questions, such as my research interest, and what I can bring to the program, etc. I was interviewed by 2 professors and a postdoc. One of the interviewers asked me which other schools I applied to.

Got unofficial acceptance through email. Applied by Dec 1st deadline, and interviewed mid Jan. Good luck to all that applied
