My evaluation score was 1.67, really low, and they said that there are significant inherent weaknesses in my application materials. I guess, they only choose candidates from reputable institutions. My undergrad and master universities are only ranked 300-ish in QS ranking outside EU.

Congrats to all candidates who got admits! Very unhappy to see that people with much better research ac*men getting rejected! Seems like intern*l recommendations play the main game in CS grad school applications in the US. Its so unfair and similar to nep*tism. In the end, this will only affect these universities' research and ranking. Candidates who got rejected, dont lose hope. You have something better coming. Your research ability will make you glow much better in the future. I got rejects from UTCS, Stanford, CMU, UW, Cornell. Undergrad from tier 1 institute in my country. 3 Very strong letters. 3 papers. 1 nips and 2 first author papers. 4 research internships at tier 1 institutes in US and my country. Semester internship at top class industrial research lab.

I regret to inform you that you have not been admitted to the Ph.D. in Robotics program at Carnegie Mellon University. You will be notified by separate email from each program to which you have applied. Our admissions committee scrutinizes applications to identify and compose a group with best potential for cutting-edge robotics research in our institute. We can support only a limited number of new students, about 40, yet we received over 885 applications this year. Many applicants have strong qualifications and will likely go on to successful careers in robotics. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. David S. Wettergreen Associate Director for Education Chair, Robotics Doctoral Program

To the people who got accepted (particularly in AI/ML) can you please share what you think got you in? There are people with 5+ first author top conference papers and 100s of citations who didn't get in, so I am just curious as to what it takes?

I regret to inform you that, after careful consideration of your application, the Graduate Admissions Committee is unable to invite you to join the Master of Science in Computer Vision (MSCV) program at Carnegie Mellon University. There were over 670 outstanding applicants this year, and that is far more than the program can accommodate. Thank you for considering The Robotics Institute for your graduate studies. We wish you the best of luck in all that you do.

Late application, as I found out today. Apparently the deadline was Dec 15. I believe it was rather inconsiderate for them to still let me go through the application process, spend time and money on it only to be rejected on this basis alone.
