I contacted a professor in UBC one month ago. He told me that he does not have any open position.

Undergrad GPA of 3.8, MA GPA of 3.7. Accepted off the waitlist, though I will be declining as I was admitted elsewhere with funding (VIU). Hope this is good news for someone still on the waitlist!

Answering the last post. I've asked the Grad Program Support from CS Department. I'm not sure if that means whitelisted or not reviewed yet. But they also said that decisions will continue to be made until the program is full, usually end of April or early May.

To the poster below who the UBC reply, thanks for the note. What do they mean by "still in consideration?" Does it mean waitlisted or not reviewed at all yet? Thanks.

I've just received an answer via email, saying that if I haven't heard anything from them yet is because my application is still in consideration.

Worst application experience yet! Not easy to reach, no wait lists, and they took longer than any other school.

Master GPA is a 3.91 with a lower 3.14 for undergrad. They liked my letters of recommendation the most followed by my previous research experience. The Head of the Department called for Interview on March 3rd and we met March 22nd. After the weekend, I called him and accepted. Then the school formally accepted on the 6th. I got the mailed letter a week later.

Publication; graduation thesis on related subject; GPA 8.2/10; two years of relevant work experience; one year abroad. Had interview per Skype with POI.

To the poster asking about my Quant: Yes, it is 161 for real. Although I didn't submit my scores to the Canadian schools since I didn't have to, I did submit it to Yale. To add some perspective, the rest of my application was very perfect with a 4.0/4.0 subject GPA for Econ and a lot of Math courses with perfect grades. Extremely strong letters of recommendation and work experience for the government (not sure if that helped). Additionally, my SOP was said to be "insightful" so I believe that boosted my application. I'm guessing the GRE is used initially to segregate applications based on scores and is then used as a tie-breaker if needed!

Got a personalised email from Henry Siu (Director) rejecting me. I responded with courtesy, thanking them for considering my application, and that I was going to Yale. I have my undergrad from a decent university in Toronto. Accepted: Yale, NYU, UMich (Ann Arbor) , University of Toronto Rejected: Duke, UCL, LSE, UBC Pending: Queen's

Really disappointed, anyways I got better schools like Berkeley. Congrats to those who are admitted!
