TTPB, you are right about internal contacts. I know people from my country not US, getting straight PhD admits with 0 papers at top schools. The person's recommendations are from three profs two of them PhD from MIT and 1 from Stanford. And he got into only Stanford and MIT in top 4 and not into Cornell Berkeley and CMU. Sometimes you can only do so much. He applied to only 5 schools. | ||||

So at this point I would say, you don't worry too much about the interview being short. They would obviously be more wary in selecting PhD applications than MSc applicants. | ||||
