TTPB: I didn't mean without the interview and recommendation of prof. I mean anyone got in without GRE. Also, does anyone get rejected after prof recommends you?

It's pretty obvious that UIUC professors are only looking for students who match their profiles. High acads, high gre or icml publications mean nothing to them :)

Emailed the prof. He forwarded it to the grad committee who told that all the positive results have already been sent out and they don't officially send the rejects until June. Just annoyed as I was interviewed twice (first by a grad student who did a coding interview for an hour and then by a prof who said that the 1st interview didn't matter and was "just getting to know you"). Stupid drama school.

Does no interview for mscac means reject? have there been any selections without any interview? when can we expect final rejects?

TTPB: It depends on all factors. No it doesn't mean you won't get in. And yes, the recommended part is totally optional because I have seen lot of people get in without interviews. It really depends.

Last year Computing Science ended up with a much larger graduate class than expected (120-ish instead of 60-80). Therefore I expect this year the cut down on the number of admits, especially considering all thesis-based master's students are fully funded for 2 years.

TTPB: For those who got accepted by UUIC MS in CS, did you get notification from the department or graduate school. I only got a notification from department saying that acceptance from graduate school is pending.

Has anyone got a decision from UT Austin for MS in CS yet?

TTPB - the reason you are yet to hear anything is because they consider their PhD applicants for MS as well, in case the original application is unsuccessful. I had mailed them in August last year explicitly asking whether I would be considered for an MS in case my PhD application is not deemed strong enough, and they replied in affirmative. I had a long shot at a PhD anyway, but just wanted to take a chance without losing out on an MS position in the process.

TTPB (both): I am the one who originally asked: "Has UMD sent out all the Ph.D. admits?". No, I didn't have an interview. I have also not seen any rejections on GradCafe till now and have seen posts of acceptances. Not sure what to expect as it's mid-March.

Yeah I got an interview after the acceptances started going on last month. I still haven't received an offer or rejection

TTPB & similar situation: What does it depend on? My CGPA is pretty good but doesn't have a degree from well known N American uni. Does it mean I won't get in? I get the recommended part, but still, it's optional. Either they should say a straight No or make it required in that case. Anyone with a similar case who got in? or knows anyone?
