After reaching out to the department to ask about the status of the decision, I finally received a one-line email (a week later) with a mass-printed letter from the graduate director attached. After charging over $100 for an application fee, this sort of treatment stings. I understand funding cuts and online application platform errors; however, as an institution, when you charge that much to apply, you need to have the integrity to treat each applicant with respect for the work they have done. It's great that the university received 210 applicants, but it's not an awesome feeling to be treated as a system error that slipped through the cracks. All this being said, I have already accepted another offer. I just wanted the peace of mind.

I feel sorry for the staff—unfortunately, there is no other way to check your status without reaching out to an administrator.

I don't remember if I submitted by GRE scores, they weren't the best... ahem...

MA student at top program, GPA is undergrad. Was emailed rejection with the note: "Please see attached letter from the Director," after emailing asking if they had an update. For future applicants, if its March and you're still waiting to hear from Cornell, email them. They've failed to send rejections in past years too. 0.5a(waiting on funding)/8r/0p

2 years of extensive research resulting in a 2nd author journal and upcoming 1st author paper. Undergrad from IIT Kharagpur. Fit was very important I believe, besides super strong letters. TOEFL 112/120.

Received an email literally just saying “please see attached letter” after reaching out to multiple staff. V dry letter. 2r1w1a.

After extensive attempts to contact, and staff insisting the letter was in the portal I just wasn't looking in the right place, someone acknowledged an error on their end and disclosed the decision and stats of admitting under 5% of applicants. 1A/8R/3P.

Got an email from a Graduate Faculty in Computer Science informing me that my application has not been approved. Got asked to fill a form to be considered for CS M.Eng. program.

I presume it's a rejection, anyway, because surely "hmm we're struggling to figure out how to make the system display the details ... check tomorrow" is not what they'd choose for acceptances and waitlists. I feel for the person I'm in email contact with, who sounds unsupported in their job (which perhaps also happened in 2024 if you look back in these results?). I emailed asking when I might get my decision because it seems late. They emailed back very promptly saying it should be in the portal. I responded that when I log in to ApplyWeb, on the page where I can see all the universities that used ApplyWeb, there is a "decision letter" button above the "checklist" button but this doesn't appear for Cornell. They responded that perhaps it needs to process overnight, but let them know if I still didn't see it tomorrow. I talked to the tech support bot which suggests (Interesting to know!) that universities load a bunch of decision letters and then have to add a date and time and give permission for the student to view it (so if the college says it's there and I say it's not, they probably didn't give permission yet). I sent that info to the kind administrative person at Cornell's History Graduate program, who thanked me for it and said it gave them an idea of a few things to go check. Sounds like the funding cuts really hit a lot of areas -- my home department has had a lot of cuts and it's our admin person who is bearing the brunt of a lot of it. Anyway. Still can't see a decision in the portal, but it's apparent my application is just an administrative loose end, and this cycle has taught me that my research niche is "weird" and difficult for programs to find space for. 1a/7r/3p is I think the current tally, one pending is a Public Policy program.

No GRE. 3a/0w/3r/6p, rejections so far are all PhD, acceptances are MA.
