I just emailed last week re: funding; it was forwarded to the director but she still hasn't replied. I'm down to choosing between Oregon and another school with really good funding so if they don't reply by this week I guess I'll commit to the other one. Kind of frustrating because I just want to know.

Received email to check portal. Not surprised since seeing there were apparently only 2 spots. Really disappointed by that fact and will have to wait another year to try again.

They sent me an email to check the portal: generic refusal letter saying that each professor can only supervise one MA or PhD student per year. I wish I knew that before putting all my hopes into this school!

For all still waiting to hear - a small group was invited to campus for a visit and it seems like that was going to be the immediate waitlist. I believe both acceptances posted here have accepted their offers, FYI.

Received an email that I was accepted and should be getting an official letter shortly! However, they are not offering any funding. :'(

Have received a lot of rejections in various formats in the past two months, but the MIT one was the kindest with an e-mail from the Department Head. I wish other programs would not be so afraid of having direct contact and communication with their applicants rather than using the automated system for the entire Humanities pool of applications.

A message for rejected applicants: A few years ago, I remember reading a Stanford admit write "third time worked, don't give up". Three times, I thought, sounds gut-wrenching. This year, years after two cycles of rejection, I gave it one more go with a university that ideally reflects my research. By some miracle (and because of the fellowship applying, studying, and networking in between) it worked. Sometimes you know what you're supposed to do in life: if it is this field, keep at it! You can do it! Take time to regroup and then retry. It is within your reach.

Not surprised at this point. Really I was just glad to finally get this letter so I could commit to the school I've decided to go to.

Not happy. Penn only allows you to apply to one program per school within the University even if your intended research has an interdisciplinary focus. I was deciding between Art History and Anthro. and had eventually decided to apply to Anthro., but the Grad Chair of Art History encouraged me to apply to her department instead because I had taken courses with professors in the department and one was writing my recommendation. Last week I got an unofficial rejection saying that they didn't think I was a good match considering my research interests. Now we see how well that turned out listening to the Grad Chair. Moral of the story: Go with your gut.

I called the department and they let me know I am waitlisted for funding. If anyone is not planning to attend please let the department know ASAP!
