Still waiting for result but curious how common it is to get in without an interview?

TTPB: congrats! What exactly did they say about the grad visit week? From what I heard, they're still reviewing applications and it will take a while before they finish.

Got in the last cycle for the direct Ph.D., can't believe it. Stats: Pros: 8 publications in journals and conferences, strong LORs, innovative research proposal (AI & climate change). Cons: undergrad from lesser-known Indian University. FYI: Virtual Grad Visit Week from March 8-12.

TTPB: UofT reject: Would you mind sharing how you received the notification? was it an official email or POI informally emailed you. Also, did you apply for the direct Ph.D. program?

Interviewed last week of February. Decision arrived a week later. I wasn't sure about my odds because I'm in my mid 30s, yet I have 7 years of work exp. as I cofounded a 40 person tech startup in Mexico when I was 28 y/o and I was in the top 5% of my undergrad at ITESM Monterrey. I'm very excited, there are not many people who study CS at a top institution in the US or CAN, I can't believe the number of excellent students from Asia that apply for the most competitive programs. I was also accepted at Imperial College London but most prob. I will take UofT. For those of you above 30 y/o reading this, if you wanna apply don't hesitate.

Pros: Almost perfect GPA, very strong LORs, 3 month research experience, ML startup cofounder. Cons: second class uni, no papers

Interviewed on the 22nd. Questions were mainly on what I hope to get out of the program and coop goals.

Master of Science in Applied Computing (MScAC) International Applicant. Had an interview on 11th February.

TTPB: The one who got into the DGP Lab, do you mind to share the last name of your potential supervisor? Does anyone else get offer from the DGP group?

Applied to MS got an offer for direct PhD instead. Will probably not take it, already got an offer from Stanford.

Field - Robotics/AI. Interviewed w/ POI in Jan. Applied for MSc. but ended up requesting POI to offer a direct Ph.D. (which he did).

I talked with a prof in the CS department who confirmed that they do not consider international students for Masters, only direct PhDs. Said it's too hard to fund International for Masters
