got an e-mail from the Professor of the Bioengineering school on January 4th (sunday lol) to have 'a brief zoom meeting next week'. not a PI of my interest but since I've already reached out to PI of my interest before applying - maybe it's normal idnk. any thoughts on what is it going to be about?)

I have the option to transfer to the PhD after a year (assuming I have a good gpa and lab).

Email from dept recommending me for admission. I think I was on a waitlist since the news came so late. I've already committed to another school, so I won't be going.

Replying to someone who asked below about UCSD BioE. I applied to the MS program directly.

"Unfortunately, we are unable to recommend you for admission into the PhD program. However, based upon your application, we can recommend you for admission to our MS program. You would have the opportunity to petition to transition to the PhD program as early as the end of your first year if you: have a minimum GPA of 3.4, have found a lab willing to pick up your support through graduation, and pass our qualifying examination." MS not funded, but can apply for TAship

Did not receive an email like other posters, but the portal was updated to say I had not been accepted.

Expected, no interview.

TTPB: I think I was talking about people who had been interviewed and are expecting offers. Anyways, I hope for the best.

TTPB: I also had to contact the department and was similarly told that if I hadn't been asked to interview, I would most likely not get an offer. Poster below is not trolling, I do think the department or certain staff members may be giving different answers. I got this response over email about three weeks ago.

TTPB: I asked the department twice, and I did not get a response like yours. They told me, "We are still working through offers. You should hear by the end of this week." So either you are just trolling or they are saying two (or more) different things. I would say (based on the responses I got from the coordinator), there is still hope left, so don't give up yet.

I contacted the department. Their response: "The invitations for interviews have already gone out, so unfortunately, if you have not received an invitation this likely means we are not able to consider you for the PhD."

To the poster below, I had two interviews with 2 professors, and 1 interview with a graduate student is still pending. Both the interviews were super informal, and I believe it went pretty well (but it's hard to say for informal interviews given there are around 100 interviewees). One of the professors was from my selected list in the application, while the other one wasn't.
