I received an email to check the application portal, and there was the formal rejection letter.

Early Nov 2025 contacted potential supervisor and was encouraged to apply, end of Nov 2025 submitted application, mid Jan 2026 submitted application for L4E fellowship. Early Feb 2026 I get a Whatsapp message from my proposed secondary supervisor on a Sunday afternoon (Montreal time) asking if I'm available in the next couple of hours to discuss my application. As an international applicant in a different time zone unfortunately I was already asleep so replied first thing on Monday morning trying to arrange a time we could talk, and was told they would get back to me with a different time. The next thing I hear is on the 21st April when I get sent an email to look at the application portal where I find a generic rejection message. In the mean time I sent numerous follow up messages asking if they still wanted to talk with me but I never got a reply. McGill's website suggested that most applicants would hear back at the end of February and throughout March so towards the end of March I began to reach out by email to the proposed primary supervisor, program administrator, and L4E to see if they could give me any insight into the progress of my application or when I could expect to hear back. These emails and subsequent follow ups were also all completely ignored. I am obviously gutted about my application being rejected however given the seeming distinct lack of compassion, communication, and organisation shown by the anthropology department at McGill and the L4E it raises some major red flags to me about the quality of teaching and support that is offered by both the program and the fellowship. I would be very interested to hear from successful applicants about if this is the case? If the other applications I am still waiting on are also unsuccessful I will be applying for PhD programs again next year, however given the inadequacy of my experience this year I shan't be reapplying to McGill. Very disappointed.

Never actually got an email notification from McGill, but my PI contacted me to let me know I got in and then my application portal updated a few days later

Low CGPA. Montreal Resident. I saw it somewhere else but my transcript dissapeared but the button to cancel my application was still there. Writing was on the walls. Next day (today) I got the rejection letter 🙁.

Finally officially rejected after (presumably) being on the waitlist. I was trying not to get my hopes up but disappointing nonetheless...I'll try again next season 0a/2p/4r
