Mathematics, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) I totally agree with the previous poster. I had very similar treatment from them except I was admitted. Very unprofessional staff and not the good a program, but they think very highly of themselves.

Economics, Boston University Didn't get into the doctoral program, but did get this note: "The Admissions Committee regrets that it is unable to admit you to the Ph.D. program, to which you have applied. However, we feel that you are well-suited to our Master's program and the Admissions Committee has recommended to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences that you be admitted to the Master of Arts program in the Department of Economics at Boston University. It is also a rigorous academic program which requires high levels of analytic skills, especially in mathematics and statistics. Please be advised that your being admitted to the Master's program does not constitute any promise or implication that you will later be reconsidered for the Ph.D. program. Unfortunately Boston University does not offer any financial aid for master's students in economics, regardless of their merits, qualifications, or circumstances. I hope you will be successful in securing funding to pursue graduate studies."
Um, thanks but no thanks.
