  • Got this reply to my email today - Thank you for your email -- we are pleased that you are applying to Stanford University for your graduate studies! The SDC admissions committee is still releasing decisions. The original aim to notify all applicants by mid March has been pushed back more than once. We are unable to speculate when they might issue a decision on any single application, however, we are expecting a new batch of decisions by the end of next week. Once a decision has been made, the decision letter will be posted to your applyweb account and you will be notified by email at that time. Thank you for your patience.

  • vvv guys, first of all, the enrollment stats is on Stanford’s website - check it out. CEE is one of their two larges graduate departments. Second, don’t get me wrong here. My comment was not bitter but a suggestion for those who haven’t got a decision as of now like me (I think it was more like a compliment to Stanford). Not trying to turn this result report page into a discussion forum, but: 1. Obviously if we are not considered as strong as the ones who have got in earlier, I see no reason clinging to this school instead of moving on at this point. 2. A friend of mine went to Stanford said there is always a long line in front of professors office not asking about class but waiting to ask them for research positions since everyone there want one, but these positions are limited so they often get ignored - pretty much the same thing happened to the ones trying to email and call during admission process. So in short, the competition is for sure tougher at Stanford because of its being prestigious. Cheers and good luck to all who got in!

  • I think 500 is actually quite a normal grad student population in any engineering department in a big research U.S university. Many other selective CEE programs have even more than 500 and they're all proactive and competitive. Stanford has a very BIG engineering school so 500 is actually not considered too many.

  • Also, consider this guys - Stanford has about 500 civil engr grad students, and getting a master there is far from a ticket to their PhD program. Go where is best for your future (financially and opportunities wise) - Stanford grad students are all proactive and competitive, making it harder to secure a good opportunity. Read Quora if you want to know more :-)

  • This is dumb. I got into another top 3 school with full funding and three other top 10 Civ Engr schools. I bet if we are in the waitlist now, we are all good candidates and certainly got admitted somewhere else already. Now even if they admit us, the chance that they get turned down is higher and only bring in people who has nowhere else to go. I'm still waiting for an admission though, just to brag around that I turned down Stanford :P

  • To the poster below: does a long waitlist mean that admission only happens when someone admitted does not accept the offer?

  • Called SDC. They informed that all those who haven't received a notification yet are on a "long" waitlist. SDC Office couldn't tell the date by which results will be released, because it is up to the admissions committee. They mentioned that they did make a few offers after April 15th as well. Hopefully everyone else will hear back soon!

  • This is just an extremely interesting and popular but highly competitive program, other than the fact that it is also Stanford. As far as I know this is one of the most applied programs in Stanford, so things happened when the application volume is overwhelmingly big. It is okay to freak out a bit I think, especially the waiting process did extend way too long... But I think so far the best advice for those still waiting for a decision is really just emailing/calling them constantly. Maybe even try other phone numbers or emails within the CEE or the whole school of engineering. Good luck to all of you even if you end up enrolling in other programs!

  • Jesus Christ, I know it's probably one or two people who keep freaking out and overreacting on this forum about Stanford's SDC program but I didn't even apply to that program and I keep logging on just to read their comments, it's hilarious. I mean, chances are you didn't get in or won't get any funding if it's after April 15th, just take another offer if you have one aready. Who the f&*k starts a campaign to hear about their results? Quit being such a baby, some schools answer late, it's not fraudulent, you'll get your no soon enough.

  • Hello all! I called the number in the link (https://cee.stanford.edu/programs/sustainable-design-construction/contact-us) and found out my decision and financial update a while ago. I believe they’ve done making all the decisions... It was extremely frustrating waiting for the results. I totally feel you guys. Good luck still!

  • To the posters below: I think we should start a campaign to defend our rights. Stanford admission committee has to apologize and refund us for the potential financial/nonfinancial inconvenience caused by their dereliction. We all paid plenty of efforts, money and maybe emotions during our application process and the waiting periods, but the whole thing turned out to be fraudulent. They think they are the best institution on the Earth? They will see within decades if they continue this attitude and behavior.
