  • A current UW CS PhD student here answering the question posted below about status. CS department doesn't work on Grad App login page so the status shown there means nothing in terms of application review. Most of the ~2500 apps have been reviewed in the first round and we are slowly starting our interviews as posted below. This will last up to last week of Jan, so don't freak out. All the best.

  • I was going through a lot of research groups while applying. While I found most profs take students based on merit irrespective of origins, I noticed Chinese prof work only with chinese students and won't work with others even if they are good enough. Why is that? Just curious and intend no offense.

  • To the 'accepted' guy flexing at the guy with the 'Turing' comment - I don't think he says anything wrong. I have 4 publications - all 1st authored (2 in 1st tier conferences), 3 research jobs, 2 research internships, a research startup - all in the field I've applied to and I still didn't get in (though I got in someplace better). There has been a proven bias towards applicants with the so-called 'networking' advantage, undergrad alumni and the likes, etc. Your research acu*en is clearly below mine (and personality too given how you're trying to prove your self worth) but you still got in. That says something.

Status1 Key: A: American; U: International, with US degree; I: International, without US degree; O: Other; ?: Unknown.
