Received an exceptionally warm email as well as a graduate teaching assistantship!

They said I was a top tier applicant but they rejected me

Applied to creative writing fiction emphasis. Received an email saying that the University of Mississippi isn't accepting new applicants this year due to lack of funding and that applicants should seek reimbursement of applications fees. I'm not even upset, just sad to see humanities departments shrinking.

I just happened to log on the portal before they sent me the email notification. I knew it was a very long shot but it was my dream school. Lost hope with the others left, as they are Harvard and NYU, so only hope is the waitlist 0a/1w/4r/2p

3.95 MA GPA. Received a response to my email checking in with the DGS, "Thank you for reaching out, and for your patience in awaiting this reply. You will be receiving a message from our admissions office soon, but for now I can confirm that we are unfortunately unable to offer you a spot in our Ph.D. program for next year. The admissions committee extends its best wishes to you in your future academic and professional endeavors." Wished the department best, it hurts a lot less now that I have an acceptance in hand somewhere else! 1a/1w/0i/13r/8p

Email of congratulations, further details in portal. GPA is I am still waiting to hear about funding, so I'm not sure if I'll actually be able to go, but after 5 rejections, I am honestly thrilled with an acceptance to my dream school. I was an Oxford visiting student in 2021-22.
