Chinese, finished BS Biochemistry degree in US. Top20ish MS Biological Science Degree. Applied this project since one lab highly matched with personal research interest. I got two papers published (not first author, good citation count, but not toppest journal); one project under going (frist-hand Idea, great trends/data, expected have high impact in the field). Two international meetings attended, with extra one toppest international meeting summary recorded/published. Low GPA (~3.2) for last two years undergrad after transferring. First two years undergrad & MS: top GPA (>3.7). Rejected without any reason given. Results available for publics. Seems pro-domestic-university-undergrad-applicants (all experiences within China). The admission committee (mostly, non-scientists) select numbered candidates and then interview by PI. The first procedure might be unprofessional (have some evidences. but as my disclaimer here: it's my personal judgement, and I won't report to publics). Personal advice for any potential Chinese applicants: don't waste too much efforts/hope for this project. Non-Chinese applicants will run through different procedure than Chinese, since lack of "international" applicants, should be relevant easier.
