- I had excellent rapport with a faculty member with whom I have published a first-author paper. Said faculty member helped write my statement of purpose, was very supportive of my application, and was one of my letter writers. This is a huge blow. While this is a very competitive program, I thought I had a good shot. I cannot help but to feel overwhelmed with thoughts such as 'why didn't they accept me? where was I lacking? what did I do wrong? who else did they accept and why did they judge them to be better than me?'. I have to try to put away those thoughts, but it's very difficult.
