I previously reached out to my POI before submitting my application, and they kindly responded to my questions via email. They mentioned that my research interests align with theirs and encouraged me to apply, but were unable to meet over Zoom to ensure fairness for all applicants. No ideas why the committee suggests to apply again and discuss with them.
