- IU insider: Our department announced that the fund (stipend + tuition) will not be guaranteed beyond the fifth year. The students who will be in their sixth year this fall are very frustrated and are trying to find external funding. However, it was a last-minute notice, so most external funding sources' application deadlines have already passed. I strongly recommend that those who have received admission or are on the waitlist search for alternative programs. Not providing funding in the sixth year is very concerning. The department wants PhD students to graduate within five years, but this is impossible because our course load is too heavy. Our program is notorious for its heavy coursework. Including tool skill courses taken outside the department (which count for 9 credits), students need to complete 99 credits in the first four years. Please save yourself!
