Text from the waitlist letter: Dear Christopher, The Graduate Studies Committee within the English Department at Washington State University has now reviewed and discussed your application for admission to the graduate program in English. At present we have made initial offers, and although final decisions have not been made for all positions, we are not able to offer you admission at this time. You application is still active, pending the opening of available spots in the program. Like most graduate schools in the U.S. we're obligated to wait for candidates' responses until April 15, according to the guidelines of the National Council of Graduate Schools. However, every year some candidates let us know earlier than that that they have made other plans, thus opening up a spot. I am sorry I can't give better, or more definitive, news, but I hope this information is helpful.
