- Was freaking out for 2 weeks because I am currently a research technologist at Penn State and every grad student in my lab found out the 2nd and 3rd week of January that they were invited for an interview. The MCIBS and BMMB programs schedule their recruitment events about two weeks earlier than the Biology program. Anyone looking to apply next year - highly recommend taking a gap year and becoming a research tech prior to applying for grad school. You will have more time to become familiar with techniques in the lab instead of feeling overwhelmed by taking classes, TAing, and then having to come into the lab to do research.
