University Of Pittsburgh
Economics, PhD (F21)
Rejected via Website on 11 May 2021
Note
Thank you for applying to the Ph.D. graduate program in Economics at the University of Pittsburgh. We regret to inform you that we cannot grant you admission to our program at this time. This year we had an especially competitive field of applicants. The Admissions Committee did its best to select a small group of people who will benefit from and contribute to the department and the university. Our decision on your application in no way reflects your ability to be successful in your academic pursuits, but rather that the choices this year were particularly difficult. To provide some context, there were over 400 applications for an incoming cohort of 5 students. Notifications are going out later this year, to students who did not inquire with us earlier, due to admissions season finishing much later than usual. The Department of Economics offers a professional STEM degree, the Master of Science in Quantitative Economics (MQE), which is at the intersection of economics and data science. MQE is still accepting applications for the Fall 2021 student co-hort. If you would like to be considered for this program, please carefully review the program and admission guidelines at MQE.Pitt.edu/admissions and contact Shannon Mischler, the MQE Program Director at MQEInfo@pitt.edu. Thank you again for your interest in our PhD program and for your thoughtful application. Please accept our best wishes as you make your plans for the upcoming year. Sincerely, Daniele Coen-Pirani Professor and Director of Graduate Studies
