Mannheim
Political Science, PhD (S21)
Interview via E-mail on 06 Apr 2021
Note
I would say that you should hear back between now and June. German universities are not known for being particularly fast in their decision-making process and it also comes down to how competitive you are as a candidate. More competitive candidates seem to get their admits sooner and the middling candidates a bit later. But, chin up, because Mannheim is solidly good school it competes for PhD students that also apply to places like Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, the Ivies, etc. and it just doesn’t have the name recognition. Also, compared to other European schools (like Gothenburg, Leiden, Aarhus, etc.) they pay their PhD candidates surprisingly little (only €1,250 per month I think). So, it’s possible if not probable that if you don’t hear back soon you may still get in because Mannheim just doesn’t have the same name recognition/resources to always attract the wunderkinder.
