- The Economics Admissions Committee has reviewed your application and in a typical year we would have been very excited to recommend to the School of Arts and Sciences Graduate Division of the University of Pennsylvania to admit you to our Ph.D. program and offer you funding. However, due to the financial impact of the Covid pandemic, we are not authorized by the School to admit anyone with funding from the School this year. We do, however, expect to assemble a very strong incoming class consisting of individuals who will have outside funding initially and the Department will use its internal funds to support most students starting in their second or third year in the program. To help us plan, could you please answer the following two questions: 1. Do you have or expect to receive any outside funding that can be used to fund one or more years in the Penn Ph.D. program (both tuition and living expenses)? Could you please provide any details about this funding, e.g., source, amount, duration, etc. 2. Given our inability to fund you early on in the program, are you still interested in potentially joining our program or have other alternatives that would dominate UPenn given the unfortunate circumstances?
