- Man, if you think it is hard in any American or European countries, you should try your luck in India, especially if you are from poorest states. No diversity points, in fact very high performances expected to get in US because of large number of applications from my country. I was literally in top 0.1 percentile in undergrad admissions, so that I can convince my family to take physics as a career, which was still met by only disapproval. No one to guide anything about foreign applications. We (people from villages/small towns) have to even cross linguistic barriers to start imagining about US universities. Guess what, I am still not getting any PhD, despite my publications, thesis and working with top people in Asia.
