- TTPB for UIUC. You probably haven't heard anything because Most top schools will not admit PhDs in civil engineering without first being able to fund. I asked the graduate coordinator for my respective department at VTech the status on my applicant. He mentioned in his response "PhD students are only funded directly on projects by various faculty. The delay in the decision on your application is because several faculty have proposals in review at various funding agencies. If any of the proposals are selected for funding, then the faculty review all the applications and make a decision about which student they'll make an offer. Unfortunately, funding agencies rarely align their funding decision with our admission timeline". It's a waiting game. Up to this point I have not had a decision made on my application and neither has another guy I know who is seeking admission into Vtech's PhD structural engineering. Hope this info helps.
