- MPhil in Modern European History, 1850–present. Definitely did not expect the acceptance. I know that I botched my essay (sample of work), as it was essentially a first draft with not only minor errors, but also one or two sentences in the conclusion that were convoluted and, upon deeper reflection, didn't actually make any sense, PLUS a large part of my argument I have come to disagree with following further reading and research. My argument was simply naïve given some simple facts I later came to discover. However, I do feel that my personal statement (and research proposal) was strong, and at least one reference was beyond amazing (the other two should also have been great, just haven't read them). Final GPA is 3.94, though from a very small, unheard of private university in Prague—it doesn't even appear in the pop-down menu of universities when filling out the app. form. Though it does have WSCUC accreditation. Studied a broad Humanities degree.
