- Most likely it is because I am not a competitive undergrad who is trying to apply for Caltech PhD to increase my learning opportunities, expand my social network, and explore my passion in other fields of engineering, although I have a great academic record and an international conference publication. I am glad that Caltech accepts applicants who does not take GRE; I just can't afford to retake the GRE test as an international student who has a tight budget. I was completely exhausted during the test day due to health reasons and earned only a mediocre score. Caltech not only has a world-class education but also has a great network with top companies like Disney, NASA, Google, etc. I believe that is why most of the applicants including myself want to pursue a higher education there. Congratz to those who got admitted! Good luck. I will be back for postdoc.
