- To the poster below: I did not apply to Houston, but this exact situation just happened to me. I had originally lost hope on getting into my top pick program, and accepted another offer a couple days before the deadline. But then, one day after the deadline, I got a call from my top choice program and they offered me admission. When I told them I was interested but had already accepted another offer, they made it sound like people withdrawal themselves from their original program all the time. The protocol that I was told to follow was to call them first and then follow it up with an email saying that you would like to withdrawal yourself, so that they have it in writing. This does happen frequently and schools know this! My original school understood and handled it professionally. Really, it was no big deal. Do what’s best for you!! But if you do want to accept your new offer, I’d let your original program know quickly so that way they can move on to the next person on their waitlist.
