- I was not officially rejected or waitlisted, I'm just in purgatory. I had to email the professor who I had put as my preferred advisor to get any response. The response said that they had to turn down even "very qualified students" (is this a jab or a compliment?), and they are leaving my application open in case any spots open up. I have other funded offers, so even if they're keeping my application in purgatory, I'll be asking for it to be closed.
