- I'm hearing a lot of negative experiences about UCLA. I also received a bunch of emails about them not being able to reconcile my SOPAHS application with the UCLA application, and I was also told that they needed me to start in the masters program before applying to transfer to the PhD program. I have years of research experience, several first-author publications, and a 4.0 GPA in my MPH Epi program from an accredited school of public health. My potential supervisor really seemed to like me and our research interests aligned perfectly. It feels to me like they are trying to get people to pay out of state tuition for their first year instead of funding quality PhD students. Applying to UCLA was a total waste of time and money. I wish they would have just rejected me right away instead of trying to tell me I wasn't PhD material. Good thing I have a number of interviews with top tier schools.
