- I knew going in that I was a competitive applicant. I am extremely close with a professor and worked on numerous projects germane to my subject or research topic, contemporary environmental injustice in the United States of America. I too was invited to interview in January. Aside from having great GRE scores and a stellar background, my cordial relationship hurt my chances, in my opinion: be wary of having too close of a relationship with a professor. I also believe that my research interest failed to align with other professors interest, not including the professor whom I applied to work under. On a positive note, my POI emailed me saying I am the first person the school will call if someone chooses to reject an offer (this is specific to Nature and Society). I have, however, decided to accept an offer elsewhere - Berkeley's rival (Blue and Gold). Best of luck to all who accepted their offers, and think about those who the school waitlisted. I'll be rooting for y'all.
