- Thank you for applying to the MFA@FLA. Our teaching faculty is grateful for your application and for the opportunity to read your work. We regret that we will not be able to offer you a place in our program. As you perhaps know, our program is relatively small and admission quite competitive. (Between 5% and 10% of applicants in poetry are admitted; in fiction between 2% and 3%.) We try to accept writers whose work is best suited to the strengths and interests of our particular faculty. These are the candidates we feel we can best work with, who will best profit from what we as individuals can teach. It is a difficult process, this selecting, one that makes us decline the candidacy of accomplished and unaccomplished writers alike, and it does not confer a negative judgment upon the work of those whom we cannot admit. We hope you can locate a program that feels it can speak to your strengths as a writer, and we wish you the best with your creative work.
